Taylor Centre Concert Season - Fall Edition
Bella Concert Hall , 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW, Calgary, AB T3E 6K6
See Description Important: On November 19 2017, the Calgary Youth Orchestra will perform the first concert of its 2017-18 season, led by Music Director Edmond Agopian.
The major work on the program will be Dimitri Shostakovich’s epic Twelfth Symphony, known as “The Year 1917”. The symphony depicts the tumultuous events of that year, including the overthrow of the Russian monarchy, and the rise of Vladimir Lenin to the leadership of what would become the USSR.
The concert will also feature the premiere of a new work to celebrate Canada’s Sesquicentennial, written by CYO alumnus Scott Ross-Molyneux. The piece will be a fantasia based on themes found in our national anthem, O Canada.
The CYO is Mount Royal University Conservatory’s flagship instrumental ensemble, and is recognized as one of the finest youth orchestras in the country. In the summer of 2018, the CYO plans to tour in Central Europe, including concerts in Vienna, Budapest, and Krakow.
