The Jellybean Collective is pleased to present An Afternoon with Sonny-Ray Day Rider!
Sonny-Ray Day Rider is a Blackfoot songmaker from the Kainai Blood Tribe, with a broad musical palate working with many genres. Day Rider recently completed a graduate degree in music composition (M.mus) at the University of Lethbridge and was awarded a Medal of Merit for his thesis project, The Blood Song Winter Count. Day Rider shows great promise in the academic and music field and has accumulated a large breadth of significant creative projects as an emerging Blackfoot artist in an impressively short time span.
Day Rider has had works premiered and performed by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Luminous Voices, Kensington Sinfonia, Penderecki String Quartet, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. He has formerly held a seat on the Indigenous Advisory Circle to the Library and Archives Canada and is continuing guest faculty to the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
This event will feature an on-stage conversation with Sonny-Ray, followed by a performance of musical pieces. Thanks to support from generous funders, tickets to this event are free! Doors open at 2pm and the event begins at 2:30pm.
