VERA & FRIENDS
A VARIETY SHOW
A VARIETY SHOW
Hosted by Darryl Janz and Michelle Cameron
Please join us for an exciting evening of fun and inspiration, where you will be entertained by ten of Vera Goodman’s incredibly talented friends.
Look forward to acts of comedy, circus, singing, dancing, a fashion show and more! Every performer will present a different kind of act. We’re not mentioning names, because like a good story, we want you to be on the edge of your seat asking, “What Next?”
Creative Producer, Murray Ord, is excited to be invited to keep the show flowing smoothly.
Legendary Trumpet Player Al Muirhead and his band, who have recently returned from their 2018
Canadian Jazz Festival Tour, will provide the musical background for the evening.
You will enjoy:
• Great pre-show entertainment
• Ten performers to surprise and keep you entertained
• An opportunity for Vera’s friends over the years to re-connect
• VIP tickets with Premiere seating and drinks
• Information about the work of Story Circle Projects
• No fund-raising will take place at the event. Your ticket is your support!
• Doors open at 6:45 and show starts at 7:30
This non-profit event is supporting a team of South Sudanese from Calgary who are being trained to pilot Vera Goodman’s Story Circle Model of Education in a large refugee camp in Ethiopia.
The simplicity and affordability of Story Circles
make it a viable alternative in all sorts of environments
that lack facilities, as well as in all types of schools.
Vera Goodman taught in the Alberta education system for many years and is now, at 84 years young, an inspirational speaker and unique reading coach. Vera believes our out-dated teach-test model of education is not serving the needs of students around the world in the 21st Century.
So she created a new model of education, The Story Circle Model. It is based in how people
throughout the ages have learned by handing down orally shared stories, embracing community
mentorship and teaching using hands-on activities. Music, Art, Drama and Technology are the modalities through which we live our lives and, teamed with reading and writing, form the focus of this model.
Story Circles are also being introduced to a variety of different audiences here in Calgary. They are flexible and can be used wherever children or adults gather to learn.
So there you have it ... for those of you who know me and for those who are meeting me for the first time as you read this ... you're all my friends.
I look forward to enjoying a wonderful evening together at Mount Royal University’s beautiful Bella Concert Hall for this fabulous Variety Show!
